Census Sunday # 21 - 1920 US Census

This week's census page is from the 1920 Census for Belle Plaine, Scott county, Minnesota. It's on page 2A. (full image)

This page has 2 families I'm related to on it. The first is on lines 2-4 with my great-great grandma Lena OLDENBURG, Lena is cited as a 53 year old widowed woman who was born in Minnesota to parents from Germany. In the same household is her son-in-law John F. Heidingolder (sp?), a 23 years old man who was born in Minnesota to parents from Bavaria, and her daughter Alma. Alma is cited as a 23 year old female who was born in Minnesota. She's cited with her father being born in Minnesota and her mother in Germany. (There's an obvious error there I haven't researched yet.) All 3 were able to read, write, and speak English.

The 2nd family is my great-grandparents Fred and Mary Blume on lines 14-20. Fred is cited as a 48 year old thrasher who was born in Minnesota to parents born in Hanover. This page includes my great-great grandparents and their family on lines 33-40. John LOVEN is cited as a 38 year old married farmer, who was born in Norway. He was able to read and write, immigrated in 1868, and was naturalized in 1880. His wife Berte "Mary" was a 55 year old woman, who was also born in Norway. She was also able to read and write, immigrated in 1871, and was naturalized in 1886 (possibly mis-cited as she and John were married in 1887.) John and Mary had 6 children living at home at the time the census was taken. All of them were born in Iowa and none of them had attended school since 1 Sep 1919. The children at home were: (Adolph) Melvin, aged 31; Carl, aged 26; Julius, aged 28; Anga, aged 22; (Hannah) Violet, aged 20; and Roy, aged 16.

Census Sunday #9 1920 US Census

This week the image I'm doing is from the 1920 US Census. This is page 1A for Glenwood township, Winneshiek county, Iowa. (full image)

The families I'm descended from in this image is on lines 17-19 & lines 29-30.

Henry R LOVEN is shown as a 29 year old married man who was born in Iowa to parents who were both born in Norway. He was a farmer who owned his own farm & was able to read, write, & speak English. His wife, Clarissa (Clarisse on this census) is shown as being a 26 year old woman who was born in Iowa. She also was able to read, write, & speak English. Their son Lloyd is cited as being 1 year 5 months old (17 months) and born in Iowa.

Ole A LOVEN is shown as being a 51 year old married man who was born in Norway & immigrated in 1869. It also shows that he's a naturalized citizen who became a citizen in 1880. He's also shown as being a farmer who owns his own farm & is able to read, write, & speak English. His wife Ingeborg is shown as being a 51 year old woman who was also born in Norway. She immigrated in 1873(187?) & became a citizen in 1880. (I'm guessing her dad became a citizen in 1880, because she didn't marry Ole until 1910.) She was also able to read, write, & speak English.
