Census Sunday # 23 - 1940 US Census

This weeks page is from the 1940 US Census for Belle Plaine, Scott, Minnesota on page 7B. (full image) This image has many parts where the writing has faded and is hard to read.

I'm related to the household on lines 46-49, Fred and Mary BLUME. Fred is cited as a 69 year old operator of a saw mill. Mary is cited as a 56 year old woman who doesn't work outside the home. Loren is the oldest child at home and is cited as a 34 year old single man who works as a mechanic in the "wall digging industry." He's also marked as the person who gave he information to the enumerator. The only other child still at home is the youngest child, Lois (my grandma). She was cited as a 14 year old girl who had attended school in the previous month. Lois is also the only one of the 4 cited as having completed any high school, with 1 year of high school completed.

Census Sunday # 22 - 1930 US Census

This page includes my great-grandparents Fred and Mary BLUME along with their children, the youngest of which is my grandmother*. Fred is cited as a 58 year old sawyer at a lumber mill. He was born in Minnesota to parents who were born in Germany. Mary is cited as a 45 year old woman, who was born in Minnesota. The oldest child on the page is Loren, who is cited as a 24 year old sawyer at a lumber mill. Lester is cited as a 22 year old laborer at a lumber mill. Ervin is cited as a 20 year old cream tester at a creamery. Florence is cited as a 16 year old girl who has attended school. Lucille (misspelled on the record) is cited as an 11 year old girl who has attended school. The youngest, Lois, is cited as a 4 year old girl. Every child was born in Minnesota, and Lois is the only person in the family who is cited as being unable to read and write.

* My grandma is still alive at the time this is posted. There won't be a post for her until after her death. I'll add a link at that point in time.

Census Sunday # 21 - 1920 US Census

This week's census page is from the 1920 Census for Belle Plaine, Scott county, Minnesota. It's on page 2A. (full image)

This page has 2 families I'm related to on it. The first is on lines 2-4 with my great-great grandma Lena OLDENBURG, Lena is cited as a 53 year old widowed woman who was born in Minnesota to parents from Germany. In the same household is her son-in-law John F. Heidingolder (sp?), a 23 years old man who was born in Minnesota to parents from Bavaria, and her daughter Alma. Alma is cited as a 23 year old female who was born in Minnesota. She's cited with her father being born in Minnesota and her mother in Germany. (There's an obvious error there I haven't researched yet.) All 3 were able to read, write, and speak English.

The 2nd family is my great-grandparents Fred and Mary Blume on lines 14-20. Fred is cited as a 48 year old thrasher who was born in Minnesota to parents born in Hanover. Mary is cited as a 35 year old woman who was born in Minnesota to parents who were also born in Minnesota. Also in their family are their children: Loren H, a 13 year old boy; Lester C, an 11 year old boy; Ervin H, a 10 year old boy; Florence E, a 7 year old girl; and Lucille A, an 11 month old girl. All the children but Lucille had attended school and are cited as being able to read and write.

Census Sunday #20 - 1910 US Census

I know it's been awhile since I posted. With any luck, I'll keep up better. This post is from the 1910 US Census for Glenwood township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, page 9A (full image)

On this page are my ancestor Anna LOVEN, in the household of her son Ole on lines 34-37. Ole is cited as a 42 year old, farmer who was born in Norway. He (along with Anna) are cited as immigrating in 1868. He own his farm. Anna was cited as an 81 year old widow, mother of 6 (5 living) who was born in Norway. Also in the household are Ole's brother Nels, and his niece Bertina ERICKSON (cited as a housegirl.) Nels is cited as a a 35 year old laborer, who was born in Iowa. Bertina is cited as a 22 year old servant, who was born in Iowa.
